Budget phones are getting better and Colors S1 is a pretty nice proof of that. Improvement is imminent change and in the future, we hope to get far better phones at lower prices. As of now, Colors is a Nepali company that usually sells the budget-level phone for the Nepali and Indian markets. So in 2017, Colors is out with its new Colors S1 in the entry-level segment. The Colors S1 price in Nepal is Rs 9,995 and it packs some interesting specs for its price being.
Getting better smartphones at lower prices is quite hard. We know that the budget segment is popular in Nepal, India, Bangladesh, South Asia, South East Asia, and many other African countries. It is a large market but smartphones that come under a $100 budget arent always a delight. They are usually compromised. We have to lose a lot of features and performance. It’s usually about the lowest compromise. So here we have Colors S1 under a $100 budget or Rs 10,000, so let us ee what it has to offer.

Build and Design
The company has marketed this phone as “Style & Selfie” So the focus is on style and build. That is proven first by its metal body. Colors S1 is a surprising smartphone because under Rs 10,000 it provides a metal body. The front of the body has a screen with sensors, an earpiece, and a selfie camera at the top. The backside of the phone has a camera, dual LED flash, and fingerprint scanner. Just like other normal phones, the volume rocker is on the left and the power button is on the right side but the SIM/SD card tray is just above the power button.
Core Internal Hardware
Colors S1 is an entry-level phone with a new premium build but it has basic hardware. Inside, there is a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor and 1 GB RAM. The internal storage is 8 GB and it supports a maximum of 128 GB SD card. At the back, there is a 2400 mAh battery powering the device. For software, Colors S1 is currently running on Android 7.0 OS. The S1 has the very basic type of hardware and in 2017, we can term this as the most basic to a smartphone.
For other features, there is dual SIM support which is very useful in Nepal. People also get a fingerprint sensor, gyrosensor, and an accelerometer which is great. Gyrosense and a fingerprint scanner at this budget are quite awesome to have.

Display and Cameras
This phone is tagged as “Style and Selfie”. It shows market aptitude towards selfies. Just like all the other manufacturers, Colors is also focusing on selfies. This is claimed by their new tag. They have an 8 MP back camera and a 5 MP front camera. The rear camera is capable of taking better photos with a higher pixel count at higher resolution. Having a 5 MP sensor is pretty good for a front camera at this price at this time. This phone is special for selfies because even though it is a budget phone, there is an LED flash at the front for selfies in low light. On top of that the back side features dual LED flash.
In terms of screen, there is a 5” IPS LCD display with 720×1280 resolution. On top of that, there is 2.5D glass. The screen size and aspect ratio have grown in recent times. However, these changes take time to come to the budget segment.
Impression
Colors S1 is a dual SIM phone with fingerprint sensors, biometric security, gyrosensors, and accelerometers which is great. It has a normal processor, and basic core internal hardware but a good camera and better selfie camera features like LED flash. We like the S1 very much due to its metallic build, fingerprint sensor, and pretty decent specs.
Looking at everything, we consider Colors S1 a good deal at the price. We are happy to see companies bring good phones into the market. We are sure people will get to see better phones in the upcoming days. The new OTTO Frank Dual is also a similar budget phone with great specs of the same caliber. So you can have a look at that as well.
