A1 is a common word used to indicate best quality. Both Xiaomi and Gionee have two mid range phones named A1. These are priced at nearly same price with about same specs. These both are famous Chinese companies and have good grip in global mobile market. They might have common name but obviously there is difference, so lets find out.
These phones have pretty similar hardware, pricing but the differences are also quite interesting. First thing Mi A1 is Android One phone which means it runs on stock Android. It will get regular updates for guaranteed 2 years. Gionee A1 is just regular Gionee phone packed with some great features like bigger battery and good front camera.
Lets us start by comparing the hardware specifications of both phones in table.
|Gionee A1||Xiaomi Mi A1|
|5.5” 1080p AMOLED Screen||5.5” 1080p IPS LCD Screen|
|MT6755 Helio P10 Chipset||Snapdragon 625|
|(2,1) GHz quad core processor sets||2 GHz Octa Core processor|
|4 GB RAM||4 GB RAM|
|64 GB Internal Storage||64 GB On board memory|
|4010 mAh battery||3080 mAh battery|
|13 MP Back / 16 MP front camera||Dual 12 MP Rear / 5 MP front sensor|
|Amigo OS||Stock Android|
Both of these phones support SD card up to 256 GB. Gionee A1 is featuring far superior AMOLED screen which is better than IPS LCD of Mi A1. It also holds a bigger battery and high pixel count camera than the Mi A1. Now lets talk about processor on both phones. Gionee is using Mediatek processor which has two quad core chips. One is high power and next is low power. It helps saving energy and deliver power when needed.
On the other hand Mi A1’s Snapdragon 625 is newer, power efficient and faster chip. It is very good processor which can handle 4K video recording from Mi A1. Camera pixel count on Gionee A1 is higher but many other things matter in quality. Mi A1 can record videos in 4K UHD format while Gionee A1 can’t. This gives Xiaomi the upper hand on rear camera.
The rear camera of both phones can take great stills in bright light but Gionee provides bigger aperture on both sides which means good low light images. Front camera of Mi A1 is not meant for selfie lovers. It’s 5 MP sensor is easily defeated by the Gionee’s 16 MP sensor. There are various modes and setting in both phones for great results. But Xiaomi Mi A1 actually has two cameras at back which gives great depth of field effect.
We give big importance to software. Nobody likes bloatware on their phones and excessively irritating software. Many people love simple Stock Android experience and Mi A1 provides it. This is because it was made by collaboration with Google. Meanwhile Gionee A1 is using latest Android 7.0 with Amigo OS. This is their own skin overlay with additive themes and software. Many Chinese smartphone companies have their own UI overlay. They have their own pros and cons.
We can see that both phones have their own strong points. Gionee A1 is better in battery life, screen, front camera results and selfies. Xiami Mi A1 is better in software, rear camera and optimization. On other aspects like sensors and features both phones have it all. Both phones pack gyrosensor, fingerprint sensor, accelerometer etc.
Mi A1 is a bit expensive than Gionee A1 but it provides regular software update guarantee. It all boils down to user priority. We suggest Gionee A1 for better screen, battery life and front camera while we suggest A1 for enthusiasts who need clean software and better rear camera result. For all other purpose both phones perform nearly equal. There may be some differences due to SoC differences but all other things are similar. So we suggest to decide according to need and budget as always.
