GeForce GT 210
This was launched in 2009 and it is more than 10 years old. Just like the Core 2 Duo, it is still in circulation due to its price. I also used it in 2010 and played games such as Call of Duty MW3, Battlefield 3, and Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. It was quite decent for that time, but now it is quite old. If you just want a video card for monitor output or want multiple monitors. Then and only then do we advise you to buy this. Else it is not recommended.
For specifications, GT 210 has 1 GB DDR3 memory with a 64-bit bus. It has 16 Cuda cores, a 520 MHz core clock, and 6.4 GB/s bandwidth. These days onboard graphics or iGPU are better than this. The new Intel UHD and Iris graphics are much better than these old cards. So our advice is to stay away from GT 210 now.

Older and Popular Video Cards
People still buy older models because they can still get their work done with them. Some people just need a card to connect a monitor with HDMI. Some just buy for home media and entertainment setup. While some use them for setting up multiple monitors. Still, these products can give good performance for gaming in lower resolution. Therefore some old products are still in circulation.
1) Geforce GT 520: This is the next stop after GT 210. It has updated specs and better power. We managed to play Witcher 2 in low settings with this graphics card on our desktop. It looks just like the other entry-level cards in terms of design.
2) Geforce GT 610: It is a bit updated next-generation version of the GT 520. The performance is just a bit more than its predecessor. We actually suggest always getting the newer generation if possible.
3) Nvidia Geforce GTX 550 Ti: The 500 series of Nvidia was very popular in the market. This was a champion of 2011. It is also mid-level hardware but now it is obsolete. The GTX 550 Ti has 1 GB GDDR5 VRAM and 192 Cuda Cores. It is still selling on many Chinese websites with fake names and model numbers.
RTX vs GTX
The name RTX and GTX may sound similar but there are some basic differences. First of all the RTX series is the latest and GTX is series is old. The second major difference is the availability of Ray Tracing on the RTX series. The new RTX cards have new GDDR6X memory, Tensor cores, DLSS, and Ray tracing features, making them different from the GTX series. The performance is also better compared to the 20, 16, and 10 series predecessors.
The major focus of new-generation cards is ray tracing and the use of AI. DLSS is a new feature on the RTX series that uses which actually improves gaming performance. This is not available in older GTX products. Compared to the GTX series, the new RTX series offer AI features, tensor cores, and faster architecture.
Most people usually hear RTX and GTX but Nvidia actually has professional products as well. Anyone who needs to do workstation tasks such as CAD, CAE, and simulation should consider getting Nvidia Quadro because they are specially made for such work demands. GPGPU is available in Quadro series products for graphics computing.
Do read our article on PC building to pair the best PC for yourself. We don’t have an official Nvidia Tesla and Quadro supply in the Nepali market. Quadro is mostly purchased by placing an order according to Ocean Computer.
Use of Graphics Cards in Gaming, Editing, and Professional Work
The above-given list includes the latest list of the most powerful video cards in the Nepali market. These are flagship graphics cards from various companies in Nepal. They are very expensive and power-hungry. Mostly extreme gamers, streamers, video editors, photo editors, 3D animators, engineers, simulators, digital artists, FEM experts, CFD experts, and professionals buy these cards. All of these cards are actually gaming cards except for Quadro. The Quadro cards have ECC memory and higher FP64 performance while normal consumer cards have less FP64 performance. These days many people use these powerful cards for cryptocurrency-related works as well. So we can take these GPUs as the best graphics card for mining too.
MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, Zotac, PNY, and Inno3D are some of the popular vendors in Nepal. These companies have a lot of variants of the same card and they have different price tags as well. Usually, the variants differ in series, design, and cooling.
In our list, we have some of the best graphics cards for gaming in Nepal that come at a mid-range budget. Actually, many of the given graphics cards are mid-range according to USA price and their price in Nepal is very high. So we are ranking them according to their performance compared to other lower-end or entry-level budget cards. Many of these products are cheaper outside but in Nepal, we have to work with what we have got.
Analysis of graphics card price in Nepal? Why are video cards so expensive?
Almost everyone asks the reason why the graphics card price in Nepal is so high. This question is genuine and everyone asks. Nobody likes the highest cost. Not even the sellers and distributors. Firstly the landing cost is high for countries like Nepal and India. If the cost is unreasonably high, people don’t buy and start finding alternatives. Most people buy from foreign or have their friends buy it from abroad. This causes fewer sales in the Nepali market. As a result, companies, and retailers raise the MRP to make more profit as far as possible from each sale.
If a company can’t make a lot of profit from a large sales volume, it tries to make the most profit from the smaller sales volume it has. Thus the product gets expensive in certain regions. This is why electronics are cheaper in the USA and other European countries compared to Nepal and other Asian countries. Sometimes chip shortages, supply chain issues, and scalpers also add to this problem.
It is our understanding, and we got this idea from a few other market experts too. The distributors also tell that the price of these cards is marked higher by the company itself. Then comes import duty, transportation, distribution, taxes, margins, profits, and retail costs. So all of this causes graphics cards to be expensive.

Hardware Requirements for Dedicated GPU
Compatibility is a big question for many people and we want to clarify a few things. At first, we should be clear that there is almost no such compatibility issue between a specific processor, motherboard, or graphics card. This means almost any graphic card works on any processor or board. For example, you can use an RTX 4090 with a first-generation Intel Core i3 as well. However, there is a big condition and that is performance. Graphics cards should work but performance is heavily impacted due to processor, power, features, and PCI Express limitation.
1) Power Supply
In this article, we have both budget GPU price in Nepal and power gaming cards as well. So we have to address the requirements for both. Some of the budget-oriented and entry-level graphics cards just take power from the motherboard’s PCI Express X16 slot and may not need an external power connector. However, some cards or powerful models like factory overclocked OC models from some manufacturers need an 8 Pin PCI power connector or more.
In the case of the new generation power-hungry gaming GPU, we need a lot of power. The cards can draw above 75 watts and go more than 500 watts as well. So we need more than one 8-pin PCI-E power connector or GPU power connector. Some cards can even demand 4 numbers of 8-pin PCI-E connectors. Some might even demand a new PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR or power supply. So do consider these facts on the power supply.
2) PCI Express (PCIe)
The graphics card is installed in a full-size PCI Express X16 slot. This slot has remained unchanged physically for a long time. Therefore any GPU can be installed but its real specification can hamper performance by a huge scale. The PCI express in the computer compatibility is dependent on the processor and motherboard. New generation boards with new processors have the latest version of PCI express hardware and chipset. Those are fast and they decide the speed you get from your GPU.
The processor has a limited number of PCIe lanes and the main x16 slot has 16 lanes which is the maximum in the consumer motherboard. So at first always put your graphics card in the top slot because the lower ones are mostly x8 or x4 slots and the performance can be hampered due to the lack of lanes or bandwidth.
Secondly, be sure that the PCI Express Gen is your graphics card. For example, the GTX 1050 Ti is a PCI Express Gen 3 card RTX 3050 is a PCI Express Gen 4 card. So there is a difference but not in sense of compatibility. You can actually use both of these cards in motherboards with any PCI Express generation. What I mean is that you can plug the RTX 3050 into an older board with PCI Express Gen 1 or you can plug the GTX 1050 Ti into a new board with PCI Express Gen 5 as well.
However, there is a case where putting a new card on a really old board can impact performance. Moreover just using a new card in the previous PCI express slot can also cause some performance penalties. But most of the time even the new generation card can’t saturate the bandwidth of the older generation PCIe slots.
There has been a case of AMD RX 6500 XT which has a PCI Express Gen 4 x4 bus interface which means it has 4 lanes instead of 16 like x16. Therefore to get the full performance you need to have PCI Express 4 motherboard. The PCIe Gen 4 x16 capacity is 32 GB/s while the PCIe Gen 3 x16 capacity is 16 GB/s. This means PCIe Gen 4 x4 capacity is 8 GB/s while the PCIe Gen 3 x4 capacity is 4 GB/s.
This is a big difference in power. If the RX 6500 XT had been x16 PCIe Gen 4, then older boards with PCIe Gen 3 would have been capable to do 16 GB/s and a card of that level wouldn’t saturate that so there won’t have been a performance difference. However, at x4 of PCIe 3.0, 4GB/s is critical. This was a very selected case but we need to be aware of these too.

3) Processors
New, powerful, and faster processors have higher speeds to send data faster to the GPU while older processors can’t do that. The mismatch of power can cause CPU bottlenecks. Therefore we should be careful while pairing processors and graphical cards. We can run powerful and expensive gaming graphics cards in low-end processors. But during gaming sessions, we can see the difference in performance for powerful and entry-level processors. It is better to pair high-end processors with high-end graphics cards.
4) Smart Access Memory and Resizable BAR
These are a very new technology in the GPU industry. It is related to the processor and graphical cards. In the past, processors or CPUs could only access a small part or about 256 MB of VRAM which was a limitation. Now the Smart Access Memory (SAM) or AMD or Resizable BAR of Nvidia allows full access of memory to the processor. This provides speed and computational benefits to the system. This is not a requirement for graphics cards for it sure does help to achieve higher performance. For example, the new Intel ARC A770 benefitted more from the resizable bar.
Suggestion and Conclusion
We know that graphics card improves gaming performance, work performance, rendering speed, and video playback. It can also provide more outputs for different displays. In many tests, video editors have found that having a graphics card improves performance by a huge margin. If gaming is your primary goal, then we always recommend you invest in good graphics cards because only that can make a big difference.
