Well MSG does makes your food taste good. FDA is also stating this as safe to east in their website. MSG stand for Mono-sodium Glutamate. Some people say its gives them headache, makes your bone weak etc. We see many Noodles, Snacks packets printed with No MSG logo. Still there is a lot of controversy on this additive. FDA also says that they couldn’t find links to reported negative effects.It is mostly used in Asian food, restaurants and junk foods. It adds savory taste to food and is used in meaty items. This chemical is very common and found in many foods. Different people and regions have different view on this. As said earlier FDA puts it in GRAS designation while some countries categorize it as unhealthy.

MSG is white in color and looks like salt crystals. In Nepal and India they are taken as bad for health. Almost all Nepalese noodles pack clearly state that they don’t have added MSG. Gluten and MSG are not same thing so please be clear of this. In India Maggie came under huge debacle for MSG few years ago.

Most people want to have good and tasty food. Actually all of us want tasty food in our lives. Well as there were many confusions and controversy regarding MSG, many people don’t want it. MSG, FDA and Consumption

The food packets may tell they don’t have any added MSG but companies label them differently these days. Foods such as tomatoes, potatoes, grapes etc have free Glutamate. This free Glutamate can combine with sodium to produce MSG as well. Mostly experts say that packaged and processed foods have them.

Doctors still recommend people to avoid its consumption as far as possible. Specially it is recommended that MSG should not be fed to infants. This is why most junk foods have label behind them on this topic. Many people love it because of the taste it gives. FDA cleared the slate just few years ago so still there are lot of things that need to settle.

People are still scared and if you want to be on that side, do take care of your food intake. Also search for names that companies use instead of using word MSG. As always the best is always to have home cooked meal. Best advice from everyone is always eating good homemade fresh food and try to eat less processed food to stay healthy.
