The motherboard is one of the main components of a computer. It is the base part that connects all other parts. It is the basis of a platform and actually defines a PC’s capacity and power. The chipset, series, power design, type, and expansion capacity of the desktop motherboard determines the processor it can use, the memory it can support, the graphics card it can handle, PCI slots, and the number of other peripherals it can use. Therefore it is super important to choose the correct mainboard. So in this article, we have curated the latest motherboard price in Nepal from various brands in the Nepali market.
There are mainboards or motherboards from various companies in Nepal. This includes Micro-Star International (MSI), Asus, Asrock, Colorful, Esonic, Gigabyte, etc. There are some Chinese brands as well which do supply boards for older processors. Which motherboard to choose?
It is very important to choose the processor and know how to choose a motherboard carefully because it will be very critical for the future. First, think of what you need and what you might need in the future before making a purchase. It applied to both Intel and AMD boards. If you are using Intel and going with Core i3, then the H series board is economical. If Core i5 is your choice, then B series boards are the best.
Choose the Z series boards for all unlocked Core i9, Core i7, Core i5, and Core i3 processors. Also, get the Z series chipset if you are planning for overclocking your processor and RAM. If you need more information on this, we also have a video to help you on this matter.
In the case of AMD motherboards, it is the same case. The X series boards are for high-end CPUs or ‘Performance’ series products such as Ryzen 7 3800X, Ryzen 7 5800X, etc. Similarly, A series and B series boards are for mainstream and entry-level processors such as Ryzen 3 1200, Ryzen 5 3600X, Ryzen 5 5600, etc.
In case you want to get the Intel HEDT processors like Core i9 9980XE and 10980XE then you need to purchase X99 or X299 boards. Similarly, in the case of AMD Threadripper chips, you need to choose X399 or TRX40 boards. So choose your boards carefully.
Future Upgradability and Expansion
If you want to plan for a longer run, you can opt for higher-end boards because it gives you a path in the future. For example, if you are buying Core i5 12400F now and plan to upgrade to i9 12900K in the future, then an affordable Z690 would be a good option instead of B660 board. People who upgrade their PC frequently don’t need to think about this. However some people keep their PC for a longer time, so those people should think about upgrading the processor.
Also, be careful while choosing the chipset because it is one of the most important bases. Some boards only support one graphics card or have just one PCIe X16 slot while some boards have more. For example, if you are an audio engineer and need to connect lots of peripherals then you may need more PCI slots. In such a case A, H, or B series board won’t have that and you will have to buy Z or X series board.
Similarly, you might be satisfied with two sticks of 8 GB RAM now but you may need to upgrade in a few years and in that case, if you have an H series board with just 2 RAM slots then you will need to sell old sticks and buy new. However, if you invest a little more and buy a B series board with 4 slots then you just need to buy new sticks in future and add them.
Size and Features on Motherboard
In the above-provided price lists, we have listed H, B, Z, and X series motherboards for Intel processors. Similarly, we have provided A, B, and X series boards for AMD processors. All these boards are separated by the chipset they have. Moreover, they are also different in the features they offer and size. One of the most critical board selection criteria is size as well. There are mainly four sizes of boards and they are Extended ATX, ATX, Micro-ATX, and Mini-ITX.
So it is very important to look after the case size and see what size fits in the case. Most people use Micro ATX and almost all mid-tower fits them. We should be careful while selecting Extended ATX (eATX) and mini ITX because those need either a very big case or a very small one.

A motherboard is distinguished by its size, chipset, and features. These are very important because one board can be compatible with various processors and one processor can be compatible with multiple boards. So the deciding factor should be power and features. Always check the full specifications of the motherboard on the manufacturer’s website before purchasing. Keep some factors in mind before making a decision. The important decisive parameters are the number of PCI slots, RAM slots, NVME support, M.2 slots, SATA ports, fan headers, PCIe lanes, PCI generations such as PCIe 4.0 or PCIe 5.0, and VRM for future processor upgrades.
AMD and Intel HEDT Platform Boards
In the HEDT or High End desktop lineup, Intel has the Core X series for workstation processors. These have high core and thread counts, so these are fantastic for multi-threaded applications. Also, they support quad-channel memory with up to 256 GB using 8 numbers of 32 GB DDR4 sticks.
These are very expensive and require professional-level motherboards from X series such as X99 and X299 for processors like Core i9 10980XE and i9 9980XE. Identifying compatibility is easy because boards have X at their name at first, and processors have X at last. However, we have to take care of chipset generation and socket. One of the best features or pros of these boards is the high number of PCI Express lanes. It is beneficial for professionals who need a large number of peripherals.
All AMD Ryzen processors are unlocked, and users can overclock them. On top of that AMD offers high-end Threadripper processors for workstations and powerful desktop PCs. Ryzen Threadripper processors have more cores, threads, and RAM support. They are very performance-oriented and especially targeted toward professionals instead of gamers. In the case of AMD, there are X series boards for the Performance lineup and there are TRX40 boards for the Threadripper lineup. These boards have more SATA ports, USB ports at back, more I/O, more PCIe slots, more PCI lanes, and better power delivery.
Recommendation and Advice
It is very important to choose the board that fits your budget and will help you expand in the future. We always recommend choosing a motherboard with 4 RAM slots if you can. Mini ITX boards with just 2 slots are a bit of a barrier for the future. Computers can run for a decade with good care but software requirements change over the years. So, 4 slots of RAM is an excellent way for future expansion.
Another important piece of advice is that there are many processors in the market. Intel has many generations of processors and there are many boards with forwarding compatibility. It is very important to study the chipset and socket compatibility before making a purchase decision. Similarly, AMD also has 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation Ryzen chips then they also have Zen 3 products. Many AMD boards have backward compatibility and forward compatibility. So study those as well for the processor you are purchasing.

If you are an enthusiast with a tight budget, choose the B series for Intel or AMD because they have good features and expansion options. For high end go with Z or X and for saving money go with H or A lineup boards. Make sure you have a high-quality power supply, and everything is fitted correctly. We also have an article regarding basic computer repairing and troubleshooting. We’ll keep updating this list regularly, so keep updated with us.
