Build and Design
The Oppo A83 has a new design of a tall screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is the trend in the smartphone industry and almost everyone is jumping on board. The A83 has a tall screen at the front with a thinner chin and forehead. The chin is blank while the forehead has a sensor, earpiece, and selfie camera. The overall size is 150.5 x 73.1 x 7.7 mm and the weight is 143 g. This is quite a slim phone with less weight compared to others.
The back is slightly curved at meets the sides. Left side of the phone has the volume rocker, the right side has the power button and SIM card tray and the bottom side has a headphone jack and USB port. The back side has an Oppo logo, camera, and LED flash. One thing that surprises us is that it is an upper mid-range phone and there is no fingerprint scanner. Even cheaper phones like the Colors S9 has a fingerprint scanner. Oppo should note such things because we do keep notes.
Core Internal Hardware
Oppo A83 is rocking a 2.5 GHz octa-core processor on the Mediatek MT6763T chipset. The graphics processing unit on this SoC is Mali-G71 MP2 which is pushing all those pixels to a new tall screen. For RAM there is 3 GB RAM in Nepal and 32 GB storage. Other models may be available later on. As usual, users are getting 256 GB SD card support for expanding storage which is very nice. The device also packs packing 3180 mAh battery which is decent, to be honest. For software, the A83 runs on Android Nougat with ColorOS 3.2.

Display and Cameras
Upfront we get a 5.7” IPS LCD panel with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 720×1440 resolution on Oppo A83. The tall screen is called an HD+ Screen. This is the new design or trend in the smartphone industry. The optics section of A83 is also holding the market standard specs. On the back side, there is a 13 MP sensor, and at the front, we have an 8 MP sensor.
Both cameras have an aperture of f/2.2 which is narrower than usual. Oppo should have gone for wider aperture such as f/1.9. For capability, these cameras can record videos of a maximum resolution of 1920×1080. Oppo has a good reputation in the camera and selfie segment. The A83 thus comes with new AI beauty and facial recognition as there is no fingerprint sensor. It is targeted toward youth and selfie-loving consumers.
Impressions and Analysis
The back of the phone is plastic but the side rail is metal which gives it good support. The fingerprint sensor is loved by lots of people as it is fast and very reliable but A83 doesn’t have it. Instead, Oppo A83 is providing a new facial recognition service to unlock phones. As Oppo focuses more on selfies and cameras, new AI technology is bolstering it. The new AI Beauty feature helps produce beautiful results with the front selfie camera. The results from the primary camera are also improved by software enhancement. Both optics and processing play important roles in the final result.
Overall Oppo A83 has a big screen, a decent Mediatek processor, 3 GB RAM, a good battery, and sufficient memory capacity. It is easily a really good option for watching movies, YouTube, surfing the web, and playing games. Battery size is also satisfactory and can provide for longer screen time. The feature or hardware set is more for youth rather than enthusiasts and value buyers. Oppo A83 is providing pretty good value under the Rs 25,000 ($230) price bracket and it can easily challenge many models in the market.
