Jaima Intercontinental has added a new phone to the OTTO smartphone lineup. The company has now launched OTTO Frank 7 in Nepal. This is their new budget phone for 2018. Last year, JIPL launched the Otto Frank Dual in the Nepali market. As per the press release, the feedback and support on Otto Frank Dual was great. Now, Frank 7 is here to take on the basic budget segment. Official Otto Frank 7 price in Nepal is Rs 8,596 which makes it very affordable.
Since the start of smartphones, there have been two approaches of the company. First is is most profitable where the companies try to sell high end most powerful phones with top-of-the-line specs at a premium price. Next is making high budget-oriented phones and selling in volume. Many companies are then pushing the boundary of hardware at this price range or budget range to attract more customers. So when companies try to attract they make good devices. By the way, it is not only specs but the design is also a major factor for purchase decision in any budget.

Design and Build
OTTO Frank 7 has a small footprint with a 5″ screen and a small body. In this budget, most phones have plastic bodies but this smartphone has a brushed metal finish back even at this price range. This is a very interesting thing and a real attraction. Frank 7 has a removable metal back cover which makes it easily serviceable. Now for other design parts, the front side has a screen, the chin or bottom has touch navigation buttons, and the forehead or top has an earpiece, LED flash, selfie camera, and sensors. The back of Frank 7 has a camera on the border of plastic and brush metal back. Below that there is an LED flash and fingerprint sensor.
Core Internal Hardware
On the inside, OTTO Frank 7 runs a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor on Mediatek 6580 chipset. On the memory side, it has 1 GB RAM and for storage, there is 8 GB on board. Users can however install memory cards up to 64 GB at maximum. For the network, it is a dual SIM phone which is nice because it is almost compulsory for all phones in Nepal. At the back, there is a 2000 mAh battery that powers up this device. Also, there is a fingerprint scanner at the back. It is very good to see fingerprint sensors making it to budget and entry-level phones
The Otto Frank 7 has a quad-core processor, basic 1 GB RAM, and just a small battery. It is a basic or entry-level smartphone. So the performance expectation should be accordingly. This phone can only power for day-to-day tasks, simple calling, web browsing, YouTube playback, and using basic apps. The phone runs on Android Nougat which seems to fit the specs but Android Go would have been a better choice.
Display and Cameras
Otto Frank 7 comes with a 5” HD IPS LCD screen, 720×1280 resolution, and 2.5D glass on top. This is also a standard for budget-range devices. However, it is good to see that Otto is using HD resolution because some manufacturers only put SD resolution screens on phones under Rs 10,000.
In terms of camera, OTTO Frank 7 has a 5 MP camera at the back and a 2 MP camera at the front. The company is providing LED flash with both of the cameras on both sides which is a very good thing. For camera quality, we can only say that these can take photos but are not satisfactory because the camera megapixel is very low. We hope companies at least increase camera sensors to 8 MP as a minimum.

Overall Impression
Otto Frank 7 is an entry-level or basic-level phone with a quad-core processor, classical design, very basic cameras but a good metal back. Frank 7 is available in three colors in the market. It includes Golden black, black, and gold. These are available in the retail market and at showrooms. In case of warranty or repair, Lee Mobi Care is the official service center for Otto products in Nepal.
We hope that manufacturers switch to Android Go for low-end mobiles to make them faster and better in the future. In overall look, the phone has a good design and packs reasonable features plus hardware. This Frank 7 is a decent option for this budget. It is good to see companies push better phones in the budget range because it marks the tech advancement that can be achieved at less cost.
