Samsung Grand Prime Full Review

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime is an upper-class budget phone. It started at around $250 and is crawling its way toward the sub $200 price tag. It is a new addition to Grand series after Grand 2. Well to speak, the mobile size is grand at around 5”. The design is more rectangular and boxy instead of curvy. After reviewing Core Prime, Grand Prime has made some good impressions on us. We want to share some of our experience with you guys.

Specifications Breakdown

The Galaxy Grand Prime consists of 5” TFT display with a resolution of 540X960. It is the much boxier design which looks industrial. The battery is 2600 mAh which is pretty powerful in comparison with other handsets. It comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset that has a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. There is Adreno 306 GPU which is entry level in terms of performance

The RAM is 1 GB and the storage is also 8 GB. In terms of performance, there is no upgrade over Galaxy Core Prime because processor and memory are the same. This means the excess price is for a bigger battery, bigger screen, and other additional features. Looking at its camera there is noticeable development. We get an 8MP back camera with LED Flash and panorama mode. The rear sensor is capable of recording 1080p videos at 30 fps. The maximum supported picture resolution is 3264×2448. The front camera is also 5MP and it can also record 1080p videos at 30 fps.

Additional Features

Grand Prime comes with compass, accelerometer, and NFC. This device also has a screen mirror feature. We can install up to 64 GB of external SD Card. But no matter what we do the applications and game will always install in internal storage. In Nepali version, there is no LTE and NFC support but in the Indian and other international versions, you can get all of the features.

The OS is Android 4.4.4 KitKat for now. Samsung has already launched both Android 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 Lolipop for this phone. It is in the rollout process and we hope to get OTA soon. As for the performance and power of this phone, we get regular experience as we get from the Snapdragon 410 processor. Normal work runs very smooth and light gaming also works nice. Asphalt 8 runs good in moderate settings but Modern Combat 5 showed little bit lag.

In terms of the price of this phone, it has decreased very rapidly which is about $100 from its launch. Now at the current price, Grand Prime is one of the best phones. Camera power is the best part of this smartphone. Having 1080p recording from both sides is really good. Also, the big screen is very immersive and entertaining. We are slowly going into the age of bigger displays.

Final Wrapping

In the Grand Prime, we liked the size, design and form factor. Watching videos, photos and playing games in a 5″ screen is very fun. Many people love the simple rectangular design like Galaxy S2 and Galaxy A5 or A3. Just like these, Samsung should keep an idea of design language people love. Design matters very much for grip and look. After all look and design give the first impression.

Grand Prime has a big screen but we expected a 720p resolution. Besides that, for a current price, this phone is a great value with a quad-core processor, 1 GB RAM, and 8 GB storage. It is a good smartphone to watch videos, play light games and do all daily work. We loved out eBook reading and Asphalt sessions on this. The best part is camera power at the price point. Selfies are also great as it has a 5 MP sensor at the front. At this range, we would highly recommend Grand Prime over other just because of a slightly better camera.
