Along with the brand new Galaxy J Prime series, Samsung Nepal has launched the new Galaxy J1 2016 in Nepal. The company has launched many exciting phones in the occasion of Dashain. It is a new addition to the J series 2016 family. The J1 is the cheapest and most basic phone of this popular series. Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 is priced at Rs 11390 in the Nepali market.
This new addition of budget smartphone makes their product portfolio much larger in the entry level. Biggest percentage of smartphone consumers in Nepal lie inside this group. As usual there are noticeable improvements over its predecessor. We have got a 4.5” SAMOLED display with resolution of 480×800. The panel packs 207 pixels per inch which is pretty good.
Galaxy J1 2016 Specs
It is great to see AMOLED screen in a entry level budget phone. We are amazed that expensive mid range mobiles such as J5 & J7 prime don’t have them. The chest is powered by a 1.3 GHz Quad core processor, Mali 400 GPU and 1 GB RAM. There is 8 GB on-board storage which is sufficient for minimal and casual users. It can be expanded up to 256 GB using external SD card as well.
There is 5 MP primary camera at back and 2 MP secondary shooter at front. Both cameras have f/2.2 aperture and can take decent pictures. Back camera is capable of recording 720p HD videos at ease. As usual with most Samsung phones, this is also a dual SIM phone. This new model has 4G LTE support and packs 2050 mAh battery.
J1 2016 is running in Android Lollipop with famous features like Ultra Power and Data saving modes. The body is made up of plastic and chrome finish at the sides. It is a budget phone so there are many cut offs like sensors, software features and other hardware too.
Upgrade from Predecessor: There are substantial upgrades that matter while picking up this phone over the last year’s model. J1 2016 features a bigger high quality screen instead of TFT panel. The processor is Quad core this year while last year it was just dual core. The amount of RAM and internal storage has also been doubled. Last year the RAM was 512 MB and storage was just 4 GB.
Analysis and View
The best part of the phone is Super AMOLED screen and S features. This new iteration is far more better than the last one. Every hardware power is almost doubled and better. The Grand Prime at the similar price offers big screen and 8 MP camera which makes prime a good rival.
In our view the phone could be polished with few software updates. It has good amount of features and sufficient power for this level of budget. We would recommend this phone to entry level android mobile buyers.
