Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ launch in Nepal

Samsung Nepal launched their new flagship phones Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus today. The media launch event was hosted at Yak and Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu. We attended the event with got a chance to do hands on with the devices. The price of Galaxy S8 is Rs 88,900 and the S8+ costs Rs 98,900 in Nepal.

Pre-booking includes free Level Box Slim worth Rs 9000. Only two color of S8 are available, i.e. Midnight Black and Maple Gold. S8 Plus is available in three colors, Coral blue is the additional one. Other new accessories like Gear VR 3.0, new Camera 360 and Dex station were also introduced in the event. Both devices are cheaper than India’s price which is a great thing.

Rs 5000 is the confirmation charge for the pre-booking. Each customer will get 6 month breakage insurance from Sikhar Insurance and 8 GB data free for 8 months from Ncell. Now they are also selling on EMI at affordable cost. There is a minimal cost for the processing of breakage but it is a very good offer.

Nepal is selling in cheaper than India which is nice. Bixby is one of the focused feature of the GS8 and it even has a dedicated button. Dex provides desktop experience and few features with a small device and the smartphone.

Bixby voice is not coming now but will be available later. Samsung Nepal is also working to bring Samsung Pay soon to Nepal. New S8 has a bigger screen compared to S7 edge but smaller battery. Both phones are taller but not much wider, this contributes to new 18.5:9 aspect ratio. In our experience, S8 is far better in ergonomics than S7.

Nepal is getting Exynos 8895 variant just like India and other countries. Both phones are dual SIM, which is good for Nepali market but still it is hybrid system. After the end of pre-booking, sales in the market will be open from May 5. We also asked HQ officials about refurbished Note 7 and they said, Nepal is not going to get them.

After the launch we used the device for a small time. We are going to do full extensive review of both phones. Actually S8 Plus is just a bigger brother with bigger battery and screen. Every other specs of both phones are same, for example processor, memory, camera.

Galaxy S8 and S8+ has some new cutting edge features over the S7. Our initial impression was awesome and we personally love the S8 due to its narrower size, better display and awesome power.
