Xiaomi’s big Mi Max is back again this year with new upgrades. Last year Mi Max was a big hit as a content consumption device. Now there is the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 in the market. It is a very large phone which is almost the size of a tablet. Some people also call these big phones ‘Phablet’. This is a pure entertainment device meant for media consumption and gaming. The current Xiaomi Mi Max 2 price in Nepal is Rs 34,999. Some of the new significant changes are in the core internal while the major change is the battery size.
The Mi Max series is known for its power, size, and quality. Mi Mix is one of the biggest smartphones or tablets available in the market. Most manufacturers offer bigger tablets or medium-sized phones in the market. But Mi Mix is a device that falls between big tablets and normal-sized phones. A device like the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 of this size is a bit unusual but there is a market for it though.
There are many people who want bigger screens, larger batteries, and tons of power. These people don’t want a tablet but they want a big screen normal smartphone that can deliver those demands. Most phones can’t fulfill that demand but this is where Xiaomi kicks in with its warrior. Mi offers the Mi Max series with normal specs but a big screen so that people can enjoy the larger real estate and longer battery life.

Design and Build
Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has a big body made of metal with 174.1 x 88.7 x 7.6 mm dimensions and 211g weight. This is a big phone but the thickness is quite impressive at 7.6mm. It has rounded sides with a headphone jack, an IR blaster at the top, and a speaker, USB at the bottom. Similarly, the right side has volume and power on the right side while the SIM card and SD card slots are on the left side.
The front side of the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has really big 6.44″ screen, touch capacitive navigation button, earpiece, sensors, and a selfie camera. The backside has antenna bands, a main camera, an LED flash, and a fingerprint scanner. Actually, the smartphone looks big but the construction is like any other phone.
Core Internal Hardware
It is a very big phone but we handled it with one hand easily. Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has a slim body but packs decent hardware and a bigger battery than last time. Mi Max 2 has a Snapdragon 625 processor with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. Actually, Xiaomi Mi Mix used Snapdragon 650 last time. Actually, both chipsets are very powerful but for long-term use and good battery life, Snapdragon 625 is better according to analysts.

In the case of RAM, the 4 GB RAM is very good because it is found in many current and last year’s high-end smartphones. There is also 64 GB internal storage with 256 GB memory card support. This is certainly enough to store lots of photos, music, videos, and movies. We told you earlier that the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is slim and it has a big battery. To be specific Mi Max 2 has a 5300 mAh battery while the original Mi Max has a 4850 mAh battery. So this phone has significantly larger power.
Display and Cameras
The screen of the Mi Max 2 is a 6.44″ Inches” IPS LCD display with 1080×1920 FHD resolution. This big screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 which is a good safety to have. Well, this big screen is the real deal and the main USP. People use these big screen real estate to watch movies, watch videos, play games, surf the web, read books, and enjoy digital content like Netflix. As we know Netflix is in Nepal so people are enjoying similar OTT content on their smartphones.
All things have improved but sadly we see a decrease in camera power. The pixel count on the back camera is down to 12 MP from 16 MP and the aperture size also decreased. So Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has a 12 MP f/2.2 camera at the back and a 5 MP f/2.0 camera at the front. Nevertheless, the rear camera can shoot videos at 4K 30 fps and take great still photographs. However, pixel count decrease and small aperture surely results in low detailed images and noise in low light.

First Impressions
Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has a fast fingerprint scanner at the back, supports fast charging, and has USB Type-C. There are almost all types of sensors inside such as gyrosensors and compasses. Except for low pixel count camera, all other aspects are fantastic. It has 4 GB RAM, a powerful chipset, and a larger battery. This combination provides great performance for heavy tasks, multitasking, gaming, etc. People can enjoy movies, videos, and web browsing in a big 1080p panel.
We tested a few apps, games, and multi-tasking and it held very well. We were impressed by the short initial review during the launch. Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is a great choice for media and content lovers. So if you are one of them then we highly recommend it. By the way, Nepal is not getting a 128 GB variant just like the Xiaomi Mi 6. So if you need higher storage than better get a high-speed SD card.
