After the tremendous success of Xiaomi Redmi 4A last year, the company has refreshed its lineup with the new Xiaomi Redmi 5A. This smartphone topped India’s sales records and crossed the company’s expectations. Now the Redmi 5A is here to serve Nepalese customers and make new records. The current official Xiaomi Redmi 5A price in Nepal is Rs 13,999 for the 2 GB RAM model. This price segment is one of the highest competitive sections and Xiaomi has a good challenger.
As far as we understand, our readers and the majority of consumers are budget-range to mid-range consumers. They usually buy phones within the mid-range or below. Xiaomi Redmi 5A is in the budget range product and this price segment is very competitive. There are many phones at this price but very few phones that offer hardware like this phone under Rs 15,000 or $140 bracket. Last year Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime was launched in mid-range and its name might sound familiar with that. For now, at first, let’s see what the phone has to offer in terms of hardware.

On the left side of the Xiaomi Redmi 5A, there is a SIM card tray and on the right, there is a volume button and a power button. At the top of the phone, there is a headphone jack and as a true Xiaomi, there is an IR blaster. On the bottom of the phone, there is a USB port.
Core Internal Hardware
Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with 1.4 GHz quad core processor on Snapdragon 425 chipset. Graphics processing unit on the chip is Adreno 308. There are two models of this phone according to RAM and storage options. One model is 2 GB RAM with16 GB storage and next is 3 GB RAM with 32 GB storage. Nepal is getting a 2 GB model with 16 GB internal storage at the above mentioned price. There is no 3 GB model for now in Nepal but we may get in future. Cameras and Display
On the front, this phone holds a 5” LCD screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 720×1280 resolution. Xiaomi Redmi 5A has a decent screen and camera for the price. If we compare it to the older Redmi 4A, the camera department is the same as before in pixel count. The back side comes with a 13 MP f/2.2 camera and the front side comes with a 5 MP f/2.0 camera. We can see a slight improvement in the front camera’s aperture size.
The front camera is pretty good with the capability to take decent selfies and videos. The main back camera has the same pixel count and aperture so we won’t notice much difference except software polishing. There is an HDR, flash, and a maximum video recording capacity of 1080p. Still, with the 13 MP camera, users can take great photos and videos in good lighting situations during the daytime.
Impression and Assay
Overall we we see the specifications of Xiaomi Redmi 5A, there are not many updates or upgrades. The issue of pricing is also usually raised by customers in Nepal. The 16 GB variant of Remdi 5A in India costs INR 5000 which is equal to Rs 8k in Nepal and 32 GB costs INR 7000 which equals NPR 11200. Pricing can be a serious issue for companies and consumers and they become serious when there aren’t significant upgrades. Vatsal Impex states, that this is due to the market size difference of India and Nepal. This means it is due to profit margin and sales volume.
Xiaomi has not put a fingerprint scanner with Xiaomi Redmi 5A which can be a deal-breaker for some people. As a budget range phone, it only includes major sensors like proximity and accelerometer. So there are a few things to consider before jumping into the purchase decision. If we see the Redmi 4A, surprisingly it has the same specs with more sensors and a larger battery actually. Considering hardware, specs, and other phones in the market, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A seems a pretty brilliant option. Both Redmi 4A and Redmi 5A are good phones so we advise you to buy whichever is cheaper.
