Xiaomi Nepal is out with a new Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime in the upper budget category. This is also known as the Redmi Y1 in India, so don’t get confused. The current Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime price in Nepal is Rs 22,499. Since the start of Mi in Nepal, the official distributor Vatsal Impex has been trying to bring good phones at good prices. The launch of Mi A1 at a reasonable price is a great example of that. By the way these days people are shifting to mid-range phones as purchase capacity is increasing.
As per our assumptions, the launch of Mi Mix 2 is certainly going to be the next release from Mi Nepal. We are seeing a trend of people purchasing more expensive devices these days. For example, people also bought the Mi Max 2 which is an expensive phone, and people even bought the more expensive Xiaomi Mi 6. However, still the biggest purchasers are in the budget segment so Xiaomi is definitely focusing on affordable phones. The Redmi Note 5A is one such phone and let’s see it in detail.

Display and Cameras
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with 720×1280 HD resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is a decent type of display. The camera department however at the back boasts a 13 MP f/2.2 sensor. At the front, the company is packing a bigger 16 MP f/2.0 camera. Both of these cameras can shoot videos at Full HD 1920X1080 resolution. They can take high-detail photos at high resolution. The images look brilliant in daylight but will suffer in low-light situations due to f/2.2. This is very common with many phones with smaller aperture.
The inclusion of a 16 MP selfie camera actually shows that Xiaomi is focusing on making this phone a selfie-centric phone for the youth generation. Well, that is the trend these days and we can’t run away from it.
Impressions
If we look at the chipset, it came exactly a year ago and it sits below the Snapdragon 625. The performance is good and as expected for this price. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime holds 3 GB RAM which gives it great headroom for multitasking. The amount of sensors and features at the price point is very appreciable. So performance wise this is a decent phone.
It seems that Xiaomi is also on board the selfie-focus market. They have better cameras at the front than the back. The company actually put a wider aperture and high pixel count sensor at the front. Most people want a better back camera but youths want better selfie cameras. Actually, the reverse placement of cameras in this phone would have made it a whole lot better. But as this phone is targeted at youth and selfie lovers, it does a better job for them.
